The founding of the company dates back to 1924, when the Compagnie française des pétroles was established in France. The company's activities focused on oil and gas extraction in France, and later expanded to the Middle East, Indonesia, and offshore Norway. Following a series of corporate events and transformations, including contract signings with Indonesia, TotalEnergies secured a strong position in the oil and gas extraction market.

Total produces lubricants for various applications, including synthetic lubricants PLANETELF ACD for use in refrigeration systems.

Features of such lubricants:

• compatible with all types of HFC refrigerants: R134a, R404A, R407C, R410A, R507, R23…
• PLANETELF ACD 32, 46, and 68 are suitable for reciprocating compressors.
• PLANETELF ACD 68 and 100FY are suitable for rotary (screw) compressors.
• the ASHRAE thermal stability test confirms the excellent performance of the lubricant at high temperatures in the presence of refrigerant, water, and metallic components.
• neutral interaction with refrigeration equipment:
• anti-corrosion properties, including with copper.
• high resistance to hydrolysis.
• low refrigerant solubility in oil for high viscosity grades, providing good lubricating properties and oil separation (low carry-over).
• the good miscibility of PLANETELF ACD fluid viscosity ensures effective oil return, especially in dry expansion equipment. The oil does not reduce the efficiency of heat exchangers.

The world record of Compagnie française des pétroles (CFP) – the first deepwater drilling project ever realized in the oil industry: drilling a well at a depth of 1714 meters, 100 km off the Rhône delta. The project was made possible by the invention of the Creusot-Loire special riser (a pipe connecting the seabed to the surface oil platform), developed in collaboration with Elf and the French Petroleum Institute.
