The world record of Compagnie française des pétroles (CFP) – the first deepwater drilling project ever realized in the oil industry: drilling a well at a depth of 1714 meters, 100 km off the Rhône delta. The project was made possible by the invention of the Creusot-Loire special riser (a pipe connecting the seabed to the surface oil platform), developed in collaboration with Elf and the French Petroleum Institute.
